Profile

The Mathematics Study Program under the Faculty of Science of the Parahyangan Catholic University was established in 1993. The program was accredited as “A” by BAN-PT in 2005, as “Unggul” by BAN-PT in 2021, and as “Unggul” by LAMSAMA in 2025. The program’s vision is to be a humanum academic community that develops mathematics and its applications to elevate local potential on the international stage for the enhancement of human dignity and the integrity of creation. To realize this vision, the program’s mission is to carry out the so-called tri-dharma of higher education —teaching, research, and community service— in mathematics and its applications, and to forge local and international collaborations to support these activities.

The program’s graduates acquire six core skills: communication, collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, computational thinking, and compassion. The program’s curriculum includes mandatory courses such as Calculus, Linear Algebra, Mathematical Statistics, and Mathematical Modeling, plus elective courses in four specializations. The Actuarial Science specialization builds risk-measurement and management expertise. The Data Analytics specialization develops data modeling, visualization, and engineering skills for data-driven decision-making. The Optimization and Dynamics specialization applies mathematical modeling in industry, finance, and epidemiology. The Pure and Educational Mathematics specialization provides a strong theoretical and pedagogical foundation for postgraduate studies or careers in teaching and research.

To support learning activities, the program utilizes a Computational Laboratory, established in 2008, and a Modeling and Simulation Laboratory, established in 2021, both equipped with softwares like Python, R, and MATLAB. The program embraces the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) program, enabling students to gain off-campus experiences and participate in industry projects. In the Actuarial Science specialization, the program constitutes the first and only private-campus program that offers a recognition of some courses as equivalent to 5 out of 7 associate-level examinations of the Society of Actuaries of Indonesia (PAI). In the Data Analytics specialization, the program offers courses preparing students for PASAS Institute (Singapore) certifications in data modeling, visualization, and engineering (CISDM, CISDV, CISDE), delivered in partnership with Cybertrend Data Academy.

Modeling and Simulation Laboratory of Mathematics Program in UNPAR

The program’s research and community-service activities are facilitated by the Center for Mathematics and Society, established in 2022. Since 2023, the center has hosted Thesis Day, a one-day internal conference where selected students recently completing the Undergraduate Thesis course present their theses, while selected students recently completing the Seminar course present posters on their seminar papers. The main audience of this conference comprises the program’s first- through third-year students, whom the presenters aim to inspire on the various research topics across the four program’s specializations. The center also regularly organizes guest lectures by alumni, practitioners, and academicians to provide career insights beyond the classroom. Moreover, since 2023, the center facilitates the publication of UNPAR Mathematics Competition problem-solution books for middle and high school high levels, through a collaboration with UNPAR PRESS.

Student activities within the program are largely the activities of the program’s Student Union. The UNPAR Mathematics Competition, the union’s flagship event, held nationally since 1995, brings middle and high school students from across Indonesia to compete in mathematics, and serves as a major promotional platform for the program. Since 2023, the competition has been accompanied by the UNPAR Mathematics Competition Roadshow, with committee members visiting Bandung-area schools in person and engaging others online. Other activities of the Student Union include Company Visit, Math Club, Math Cares, regular sports activities, and more.

With a curriculum refurbished every five years, state-of-the-art facilities, fruitful partnerships, and a rich array of academic activities, the Mathematics Study Program offers abundant opportunities for student development. Committed to delivering high-quality mathematics education, advancing knowledge through research, and contributing to society via community service activities, the program prepares graduates with strong analytical and technological skills to excel on the global stage.
